PDF highlights rendering to the layer behind the text

It would be wonderful if the color of the highlights (PDF annotations) were rendered on a layer behind the text, as is already the case in many apps designed specifically for PDF annotation. This would ensure that the text (and images in snapshot mode) remains black. For me, at least, this makes it much easier to read.
