Automatically create tasks from templates and property changes
I'd like to be able to create tasks automatically, based on how an object is created or how its properties change. A lot of my work follows fixed steps and right now I have to add those tasks by hand every time.
Two examples from my own workflow:
- When I create an object from a specific template (e.g. a new client project), a fixed set of tasks is created and linked to that object, like "Send kick-off email" and "Set up project environment".
- When I set the status of a project to "Done", a task "Invoice project" is created automatically and linked to the project.
A simple rule per object type would cover most of this:
- Trigger: object created (optionally from a specific template), or a property changes to a certain value (status, select, checkbox)
- Action: create one or more tasks, linked to the object
- Optional: a due date relative to the trigger (e.g. 3 days later) and a default priority
Nice to have: the object's name as a placeholder in the task title ("Invoice {{title}}"), so the tasks stay recognizable in the overall task view.
This would turn templates and properties into actual workflows, without needing an external tool for something this common.
