Set object properties from Telegram / WhatsApp messages

Messenger integrations are my fastest way to capture things on the go. With the +Type/Title/ syntax I can already create an object of a specific type, but I can't fill in its properties. The object is created empty, and the actual data (the amount, the date, the category) stays as plain text in the daily note.

Example use case: expense tracking. I pay 900 TL at the grocery store and want to log it right away from Telegram as an "Expense" object with a number property "Amount". Then I can see my monthly totals in a query or table view. Right now I have to open the app afterwards and type every number in by hand, which defeats the purpose of quick capture.

Proposed syntax (similar to Dataview-style inline fields):

+Expense/Groceries/ Amount::900 Category::Market Date::today

Result: a new "Expense" object titled "Groceries" with

  • Amount (number) = 900
  • Category (label) = Market
  • Date (date) = today

Suggested behavior:

  • Property names are matched case-insensitively. Names with spaces use UpperCamelCase, same as type names (PricePaid::12)
  • Number: accepts 900, 12.5 or 12,5, based on the user's locale
  • Date: ISO format (2026-09-28) or keywords like today / yesterday
  • Label: matched against existing options by name
  • Object/entity property: linked by title, like [[...]]
  • Checkbox: true / false
  • Any remaining text goes into the object's content
  • The bot replies with a short confirmation, e.g. "Created Expense 'Groceries' (Amount: 900, Category: Market)". If a property or value can't be matched, it warns instead of failing silently

The new Capacities API can already write number, date and label properties, so the messenger integrations could reuse the same logic.

Other use cases: workout logs (Reps::12 Weight::60), reading logs (Pages::35), habit or mood tracking (Mood::4), meal logs, mileage and more. Basically any structured data you want to record on the go.

Combined with aggregations in table views (see "Summarize / Calculate numerical properties across subset of objects" and "Sum, Count and Averages to Dashboards"), this would make Capacities a real lightweight tracker without any third-party tools.
