Recurring tasks: retain a default status

I love the recurring tasks feature, but I'm a little bit frustrated because of the behavior of the status property. I use the status field to emulate a GTD-like workflow (for lack of a custom property I can edit). In my case the status is an indicator of the context in which I can perform the task. For example: Morning Routine, On The Road, At Work, At Home, At My Home Desk, ... This is very helpful in sorting the tasks throughout my day, on a Kanban board in my Daily Note. Love it!

But here's the issue: whenever I check off a task, the next occurrence does not retain the status, but defaults to "open". Which in a way makes sense, but the context for this next occurrence is most likely the same as for the previous occurrence. So I have to manually add the new status every time.

This could be solved by having the option to retain the last status before completion as a custom setting for tasks. Or another way: allow task objects to receive custom properties (and thus allowing me to create a specific property for the GTD context).

Anyone else having this "issue"? Or any suggestions for a different solution.

Thanks!

My workaround:

  • Use tags for GTD contexts
  • I prefix them with c- for faster autocomplete, like c-home, c-errand, c-call.
  • Kanban view, grouping by tags
  • In the group selection menu, only select my c- prefixed tags

Custom properties on Task objects aren’t currently supported. Could you clarify whether the status resets in both Scheduled Date and Completion Date recurrence modes, and on which platform this occurs? https://docs.capacities.io/reference/task-management
