Sidenotes for pages

I would like to suggest a new feature: sidenotes for pages. Just like we already have a dedicated note page for pdfs, websites and images, a sidenote page for normal text pages could be a useful addition to the Capacities feature portfolio. It would address several missing things that partly have been requested before:

1. Drafts and ideas. By highlighting text, notes (drafts, ideas, etc.) can be added to the highlighted text. Clicking on the highlighted text would open the sidenote panel in the right sidebar, and clicking on the text in this panel would lead back to the text on the page.

2. Commenting. The sidenote page can also serve as a way to comment on text/blocks on the main page. We could approve/reject the comment, turn it into a task, or even add attachments and refer to other objects.

3. Footnotes. A simple slash command like “add numbered side note” after a word on the main page could add a side note with a continuous numbering to the sidenote page. This sidenote would appear just next to the referencing text position. But when the page is exported, the numbered notes can be exported as footnotes on the bottom of the page.

4. Presentation mode speaker notes. The sidenotes could also serve as speaker notes for presentations. Then they are only visible on the presenter’s screen but not on the audience’s screen.

This is roughly how I imagine the sidenotes feature for pages. I’d be happy to hear more ideas and possible use cases.

with you in principle. There was very extensive discussion and ticket in the old feedback system about this.

By now, I think this ticket is the one collecting all ideas on annotation, sidenotes etc.

Better keeping things streamlined here, IMHO… 🌻
