Topic: Bug: Telegram Bot Verification Fails Permanently in Supergroups (Topic-Enabled Chats)
The Capacities Telegram bot is currently incompatible with Telegram's "Supergroup" architecture, which breaks the initial verification process.
When a user enables "Topics" (Forum mode) in a Telegram group—even just for a moment to test it—Telegram permanently upgrades the chat to a Supergroup on the backend. This changes how messages and commands are routed. Because the Capacities bot does not support this structure, it fails to read the {setupcode} payload attached to the /start command, resulting in an endless loop of "Verification failed. You need to provide the code from the app settings."
Impact:
Because Telegram does not allow Supergroups to be downgraded, users who accidentally toggle Topics on, or those who want to use an existing, long-standing Supergroup for their daily capture log, are completely locked out. The only current workaround is to abandon the chat history and create a brand-new standard group, which breaks continuity for users relying on older unified chats.
Steps to Reproduce:
* Create a Telegram group and add the Capacities bot.
* Toggle "Enable Topics" on in the group settings (which converts it to a Supergroup).
* Toggle "Enable Topics" back off.
* Attempt to verify the bot using /start {setupcode}.
* The bot will reject the code and fail to verify.
