Support for embedding shared content as iframe

Hey guys!

I might have a rather niche problem with shared objects. Accessing a secret link from another web-app gives me a connection error:

That happens in an iframe:

Background: I want to pull the capacities page inside a virtual table top (owlbear.rodeo) to quickly access my roleplaying notes from within the game. If you know owlbear.rodeo, the extension is GM Vault.

Can you help me?

Thank you! Sebastian

Hi Sebastian Kemmer we've changed this to an improvement request.

Hi Capacities Team,

I’d like to advocate for adding iframe support for Shared Capacities pages. As someone who uses tools like Owlbear Rodeo and GM Vault for tabletop RPG sessions, this feature would be a game-changer for my workflow—and likely for many others in the community.

Why iframe support matters:

Seamless Integration: Embedding Capacities pages directly into virtual tabletops (like Owlbear) would eliminate the need to constantly switch tabs, keeping notes, character sheets, and other resources visible alongside the game.

Enhanced Usability: Many GM tools rely on iframes to consolidate external content. Supporting this would make Capacities more versatile and user-friendly for RPG prep and gameplay.

Broader Compatibility: iframe support aligns with how modern web apps (like Owlbear) are designed, ensuring Capacities works smoothly with other platforms.

I’ve already shared the error details in the original report, but if you need more context or testing, I’m happy to help. This feels like a small change with big potential to improve the experience for GMs and players alike.

Thanks for considering it!

Sebastian

Thanks for reporting this, Sebastian. Shared Capacities pages currently don’t support being embedded in iframes in all external apps, and some hosts or browser security settings can block this. For now, the most reliable option is to open the shared link in a separate tab/window instead of inside the virtual tabletop. If iframe support for more hosts is important for your workflow, adding details here (browser, OS, exact error message) will help the team assess it.
