Support Native "Speak Selection" Accessibility (macOS & iOS)
I've mentioned this as part of another feedback thread before, but I'm creating a dedicated request because it's important enough to deserve its own discussion and visibility.
Apple's native Speak Selection accessibility feature should work throughout Capacities on both macOS and iOS, allowing users to select any text and have the operating system read exactly that selection aloud.
This is currently one of the main reasons I still have to switch to other apps during my daily workflow.
I rely on listening as much as, and often more than, reading. Speak Selection is a core part of how I consume notes, AI-generated content, research, documentation, and meeting notes, and it works consistently across most Apple apps as well as other editors and knowledge tools.
In Capacities, however, this workflow isn't available (or doesn't behave correctly), forcing me to copy content elsewhere or switch applications just to listen to information that's already in my knowledge base.
This isn't really a request for a new text-to-speech feature—it's about supporting Apple's built-in accessibility capabilities. It would benefit users with dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, visual fatigue, and anyone who simply processes information better by listening.
As AI-generated content becomes longer and more common, listening to summaries, research, and project plans has become an increasingly important way to consume information.
Expected behavior
- macOS: Speak Selection reads the exact highlighted text.
- iOS & iPadOS: Speak Selection (Accessibility → Spoken Content) behaves the same way.
- Capacities exposes selectable text correctly to Apple's accessibility APIs so the native feature works as expected.
Supporting this would make Capacities fit much more naturally into my workflow, and I expect many other users who rely on Apple's accessibility features would benefit as well.
