Avoid Broken Images from web. Proposal: Automatic download feature for web images to have them local available

Problem: That images are only included as links but are not displayed. Manual download is possible, but an automated solution would be very helpful.

Proposal: A good proposal comes from Obisidian and community plugins.

The best-known and most widely used tool for this is the “Local Images” plugin (or its updated versions, such as “Local Images Plus” or “Image Embedder”).

Here’s how the solution works:

  1. Automatic download: The plugin scans your Markdown notes for external image links (e.g., https://beispiel.de). It automatically downloads the image files in the background.
  2. Local storage: The images are stored directly in your Obsidian vault—usually in a media or attachments folder you’ve defined (e.g., /attachments) .
  3. Path rewriting: The plugin automatically replaces the vulnerable web link in your note with the new, local path (e.g., ![[image.jpg]]).

The big advantage: Your images are then available offline, protected from deletion on the original website, and permanently saved in your own notes.

Such an automatic download way for capacities would be great!
