Rework current sidebar and tabs system to a more free flowing system
The UI seems to be going in the direction of a tabbed sidebar, but I'm thinking you can take this idea even further. Instead of a main notes area and a sidebar where you can put whatever you want, I am proposing that it gets reworked into a fully free flowing split view/tab system.
- Everything gets treated like a tab. Notes, Object Dashboards, Queries, Backlinks, the Graph View, Objects inside, Related content. This means you can move them around anywhere. The graph view can be moved to the left side or to the right of the notes, or on the top.
- You can still have a dedicated sidebar with distinct styling, but it behaves similarly to the main view, just distinctly on the side.
- The main notes view can be further split vertically or horizontally. Each split can have multiple tabs in it.
- The right sidebar's vertical split can have multiple tabs in the top or bottom split, and can even be further split into 3 or more sections.
- If there's a tab that requires data from a singular note, the tab will display the data of whichever note is currently or last been focused on (clicked on or typed in)
This way, Capacities acts more like a browser for your notes that you can freely organize how you want. It creates a "customizable" interface without forcing users to engage with too many settings due to its intuitive nature.
I feel like a good inspiration functionality wise is the way Obsidian currently handles its split view and tabbing. Obsidian has 3 distinct sections
- Left Sidebar
- Main Notes Area
- Right Sidebar
All 3 sections have a customizable split and tab system that allows you to create the workspace you want.
