Group ticket: streamline text editing + formatting – too many scattered + incoherent options
There was, to my recollection, a ticket in the old system – so I try to reconstruct and reformulate:
As several people have mentioned in forum (Discord), the way the text editing + formatting is organized is slightly confusing and also incoherent. For one: there are at least four different entry points to "do something" with/on the text:
• 1 - automatic format palette
• 2 - Action panel (at bottom)
• 3 - slash command
• 4 - menu to be activated via block handle
On top of that, these are asystematic. So, when one looks for a certain way to manipulate text it is very hard to remember which of those 4 to call. Plus, they are inconstent internally, so there is a lot of confusion, overload, non-speaking UI etc.
Just one example: to make a text "small", which is – in theory – part of "text hierarchy", one can do that via option 2 and 4 – but not via 1 or 3 even though both contain other "text hierarchy" commands…
Second example: color/highlighting is missing in the block access, which would seem like a natural place for changing block appearance…
I think some other points of friction/confusion have been mentioned in the forums.
Also below a quick first collection of different tickets that all relate to text formatting and editing in some way. There are more, and some more were on last idea board as well to my recollection.
Generally, I think this is one of the "basics" that would be good to get better in shape – … before starting wider ranging discussions on things like "long form editing", "Capacities as writing environment" which also come up regularly – but are more in the department "extensions".

I'd love to be able to just pin the command panel in a page when doing a lot of text work
