Written dates in text fields should not automatically turn into linked dates.

When I create a task like “Book London (June 8–14)”, the dates are automatically detected and removed from the text field. That’s not what I want.

The trip itself is on June 8–14, but the task—booking the trip—needs to be done much earlier. Automatically stripping the dates from the task title changes its meaning.

Is there a way to write “Book London (June 8–14)” without the system constantly detecting and removing the dates? It’s quite annoying to have to fight the editor for this.

A better approach might be to only link or extract dates when the user explicitly signals intent, for example by using operators like @ or [[. That would avoid unintended behavior while still supporting date linking for users who want it.

I already upvoted this, but I wanted to comment too, the automatic date detection is the only thing I don't like about Tasks, which have otherwise been a great addition. I teach weekly classes, and adding tasks like "check in with Monday students" is a constant frustration.

Using operators to signal intent would be great, or another way that I've seen apps handle this is the user can hit 'Esc' after the date is automatically detected, and the auto-detection is cancelled. I hope I described that right, I think that's what Todoist does.

Hi Ben Rosche , the only way around this at the moment is to do something like 'Junee 8' when capturing and then edit later, but I understand the friction and will add this to the list of task improvement ideas.
