Adding a filter button when viewing a collection

I would like to have a table view for a collection (e.g. in the object people I have a collection called clients) with the ability to filter within the collection (I would like to filter the client list for those clients who have a status "active"). This will help to easier drill down the data, make edits, and keep track.
