Expanded & Redesigned Template Selection and Application Flow

🧐 Problem Statement:

  • The current template selection process isn’t intuitive for new object creation and Daily Notes via the Calendar.
  • Daily Notes always use the default template, limiting customization for users with varied routines.

šŸ”§ Suggestions for Improvement:

  • Redesign Template Selection UI:

When creating a new object (especially via Calendar), show all templates as clickable buttons.

If templates >5–10, display them in a tidy, expandable menu for a minimalist look.

Keep this UX similar to the ā€œCreate Object from Calendarā€ quick button—with a default button & expansion icon.

  • Enhance Daily Notes & Calendar Integration:

Allow users to choose from multiple templates when creating Daily Notes in the Calendar modal.

Remove restriction of always applying the default template—let users select or schedule different templates for different days.

(e.g., ā€œRoutine Mondayā€ for Mondays, another for Thursdays)

  • Scheduled Template Application:

Enable users to schedule specific templates to auto-apply on chosen days or intervals

(e.g., weekly, bi-weekly, one-time).

šŸ’” Benefits:

⚔ Reduces workflow friction

šŸŽÆ Increases flexibility and personalization

🌱 Aligns with Capacities’ minimalist and user-first design principles

šŸ‘“ Example Use Case:

A user wants ā€œWork Routineā€ template every Monday/Wednesday and ā€œCreative Routineā€ template every Tuesday/Thursday for Daily Notes—they can select or automate these with the proposed improvements!

šŸ’¬ Additional Suggestion:

Extend template scheduling & selection to other object types beyond Daily Notes for even more flexibility.

Yes to scheduled template application - I have a weekly reflection template that I would like choose (or even better: auto-create) on Fridays as part of my routine.
