Secret Capacities URLs as an object type
I think you're right to concentrate on Capacities as a personal knowledge tool. Not everything needs to be collaborative. But there is an already built in feature for which I would like to make a proposal to get more out of it. It's about contents shared as "secret links". At the moment, you can receive such a link, click on it and view the shared content as a page in a web browser. That's fine and shouldn't be changed. But what about the idea below:
Provide a new standard object type in Capacities called "Shared contents" or "Contents shared with me". Creating a new object of this type is done by inserting a copied "secret Capacities link" URL that you have received from someone else before. A process very similar to creating a web link object. Advantages of such a new object would be:
- You can use it within the native apps on desktop and mobile devices
- It is content from someone else, but present in your workspace
- You can view it just like your own contents, only without being able to edit it
- You would receive automatic updates of the contents if they have been edited by their owner
- If the owner stops sharing it or remove the content, it would be removed automatically from your view, too
- You can use these objects just as any other (own) object - assign them to other objects, embed them, whatever
So people could share and coordinate their work in a way where every object only has one owner (the personal approach), but where sharing contents would become a natural part of the knowledge workflow. I think this feature wouldn't break any of the existing app concepts but making it much more attractive to co-working users.
