Automatically use “smart,” “curly,” typographer’s quotation marks and apostrophes

There was an older request from 2023 for this that had two votes and was auto-closed in February:

But there can’t be only two of us typography nerds smashing the option- and shift-option-brackets every time we want a proper apostrophe or quotation mark, right?

Obviously, you wouldn’t want this conversion to take place within a code block or within text formatted with the code Markdown backticks, where straight single and double quotes are appropriate.

I’ve watched in admiration as you’ve refined the design of Capacities over the years, and I hope this might make it in a future design round.
