Open Source?
I get why end-to-end encryption is not used to secure our notes. Could you guys at least make the app open source in order for us to trust you? I know im being a bit bold here but i think most people think the same way. I don't want to invest my time and money into a service, which most probabely will be sold to some investor in the end and i need to migrate to a different service all again. If it's open source, i could self host the application and still use the service, without worrying about security at all. Also i would be completely sure, that i can access my notes 10 or even 30-50 years in the future without any problems. I know you guys will say "But you can export your notes!".. well. not completely. "toggles" are just being converted to normal bullet points for example. I hope i could explain my thought process in a meaningful way and wait for your respones.
Thank you for considering!

I would be very interested in subscribing to Capacities' services if the application was open source (or a reasonable variant thereof). It would align better with the positive principles that the company has espoused and make me feel that I am respected as a user with proper rights to my own computer.
While it appears that an open source development model would work well with Capacities' business model I understand the developers might not feel that way. There are similar options that can be worth pursuing and would essentially satisfy much of the open source desire that users have.
Aside from open source there is the Fair-Code approach. That approach provides software code in the open, enabling the possibility of something similar to an open source-style community but which the authors restrict from third-party commercialization.
The Fair-Code site links to a variety of licences as examples. Similarly the CommonsClause is an addendum to other open source licences, which accomplishes a similar result (designed by a lawyer).
The effect of these things is essentially to give users freedom and encourage collaboration but prevent other companies from commercially profiting off of the code.
Thank you.
