This would, for example, allow us to link our ‘second brain’ folders – which we already use with our AI systems – and enable us to switch between them whilst retaining features such as the document and graphical interfaces.

Yes this will be great,

Dropbox for example for backing up the vault of notes, very nice

I've been consolidating on Google as my primary cloud storage provider. The capabilities available between Workspace, Drive, and Gemini, and the flexibility of full access from Windows, Linux, iOS, MacOS, and Android have me using Drive as the central focus of my workflow. The more Capacities can integrate the better.

This would be great if it means we can edit/annotate pdfs in a separate file storage (google drive, dropbox, one-drive), and the linked file is automatically updated as a linked file in Capacities. This would avoid the need to build in pdf annotation to capacities.

Maybe include webdav integration? Or private (like Nextcloud) cloud? This would actually benefit Capacities as would reduce their storage load.

I can see the appeal of this on the surface, but I'm not sure if this creates strong differentiation worth the overhead, ongoing maintenance, etc. There's also the congantive overload of using Google Drive for some things where they now overlap into Capacities. Almost wonder if it's better to decide at point of upload do you want that PDF in Google Drive or direct upload to Capacities?

I can see the appeal of automated backup destination being Google Drive, that makes a lot of sense.
