Ctrl+click to open object in new tab failing sometimes

I'm trying to control-click to open content in a new tab. That works sometimes. If I am on an Assignment (an Object of a custom type I have) and control-click on the Class (another Object of a custom type I have) in its Properties, it opens it in the same tab, as if I had merely clicked. But, if I test this with other objects, some of them open in other tabs as expected. (For example, if I control-click on a date-object, it opens the calendar thing correctly in a new tab.) Actually, new pattern I just discovered: it never works when the Object I'm control-clicking is in the "properties" section of the Object I'm viewing. If I'm working in "ENG-263 Midterm Presentation" and control-click on the professor's name (a Person object) in the Midterm's Properties, it just opens it in the same tab. If I go to People and control-click that same professor's name, it correctly opens in a new tab.
