End recurrence of a recurring tag

It would be great if I could stop a task from recurring without loosing all the data that was collected during the months in which the task recurred.

I would love something that behaves similar to how recurring calendar events work in Google calendar. I can stop recurring calendar entries in google cal from creating future events while keeping the old events saved on my calendar.
