Cursor jumps backward after em dash

My computer (macOS) automatically replaces double dashes with an em-dash. In Capacities and only in Capacities, when it does this, the replacement takes place after I type two characters, and the cursor jumps backward two characters when that occurs, leading to many, many garbled words when I’m suddenly typing in a new location.
