Shared audio files not playing in Firefox on mobile devices
Dear Capacities Support,
I’m experiencing an issue with shared audio files from Capacities on mobile devices.
When I open a shared Capacities link containing an audio file in Firefox on Android, the audio file does not play. The same issue occurs both in normal browsing mode and in private mode.
See here: https://youtube.com/shorts/44QfxFdyttM?feature=share
Some of my clients have reported the same problem on their iPhones.
Interestingly:
- The audio files play without any problems in Chrome and Microsoft Edge on mobile.
- Firefox on desktop works correctly.
- Switching Firefox on the mobile device to Desktop Site/Desktop View does not solve the problem.
So the issue seems to be specifically related to Firefox on mobile devices when accessing shared Capacities audio files.
Could you please check whether this is a known issue and whether there is a possible solution?
Best regards, Armin Wilding

Thanks for the detailed report and video. To help us investigate, could you share:
- Which audio file format is affected (mp3, ogg, wav, m4a)? 2. Does this happen with all shared audio files or specific ones? 3. What Android/iOS version are you testing on?
This will help us narrow down whether it's a browser compatibility issue or something specific to how we serve audio in Firefox mobile.

Hi Beth!
Discovered the following: The reason for Firefox' behaviour must be the DRM copy protection, which is enabled by default for all sites. I've disabled it - now the files in normal mode can be played. If I open the Capacities site in private mode it's still not working.
Never heard about this and found it randomly.

I have now tested all available settings for Firefox Private Mode. Unfortunately, in none of the configurations is it possible to play the audio file from Capacities in a private Firefox tab.
Since various apps use the system’s default browser to open external links, this issue does not only affect users who actively use Firefox itself. It can also occur when a Capacities link is opened from another app and Firefox is set as the default browser.
However, I found a workaround: In Firefox, users can disable the option to open external links in Private Mode. Once external links are opened in normal Firefox tabs instead, the Capacities audio files play correctly.
So the issue seems to be specifically related to audio playback in Firefox Private Mode on mobile devices.
Best regards,
