PDF text selection/highlighting broken on Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, causing app crashes

PDF text selection/highlighting is broken on Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and may cause app crashes

I'm using Capacities v1.70.2 with a Believer subscription on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.

Device:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S7
  • Model: SM-T870
  • One UI: 5.1.1
  • Platform: Android
  • Capacities version: v1.70.2
  • Subscription: Believer

PDF highlighting works correctly on the desktop app, but I cannot reliably select or highlight text inside PDFs on the tablet.

Behavior with finger touch:

  • When I long-press or try to select a word, the word is initially selected.
  • However, the selection disappears almost immediately.
  • I cannot drag the selection handles or expand the selection to include more text.
  • Because the selection disappears, the Capacities highlight/annotation controls never become usable.

Behavior with Samsung S Pen:

  • I am also unable to select text properly using the S Pen.
  • The selection/highlighting workflow does not become available.

Additionally, when I repeatedly try to select text or interact with the PDF viewer, Capacities has sometimes closed unexpectedly on the tablet.

The same PDF works correctly on the desktop version of Capacities, including text selection and highlighting.

Expected behavior:

  • Text selection should remain active after selecting a word.
  • I should be able to drag the selection handles to expand or reduce the selected text.
  • The highlight/annotation menu should appear and remain usable.
  • The app should not crash when interacting repeatedly with PDF text selection.
  • Ideally, the workflow should also support Samsung S Pen interaction.

Actual behavior:

  • A word is briefly selected with touch, but the selection immediately disappears.
  • Selection handles cannot be manipulated.
  • Highlights cannot be created.
  • S Pen text selection does not work.
  • Repeated interaction with the PDF viewer may cause the app to close unexpectedly.

This seems to be specific to the Android/tablet PDF viewer, since the same account and PDF work correctly on desktop.
