Mouse back and forward Buttons are no longer working in the newest version

Hi,

in the newest version the back and forward buttons on my mouse are no longer navigating back and forth on all pages. I get the message I attached as an image. Until now it did work without problems. Please readd this feature, it is really annoying to use the small arrow buttons at the top manually all the time and as this function does work in every other program, especially browser based ones.

Personally I'd give up the browser back/forward mouse control for more consistent behaviour, which I'm guessing this change is part of: if you were using multiple tabs 'back' always seemed to end up in some very random places from other open tabs. BUT CTRL + <- and CTRL + -> are text editing combinations (at least in Windows, I get the feeling Capacities is often developed Mac-first!) so back/forward doesn't work if a content block or text field has the focus. You need to click out of text editing for the back/forward key combinations to work correctly.

Same, I do not get what was a reasoning for this change and it's tiny bit frustrating. I use the buttons whenever they are available in any app and also still have a muscle memory that back/forward button used to work here. This change seems intentional, but it'd be nice if there was an explanation which feedback/problem caused this change.

I could wager that the whole back/forward navigation (even with UI buttons/key binds) is often confusing and unpredictable (I personally often expect that pages opened in preview/bread-crumbed can be walked back) but it's not the reason to remove back/forward mouse keys support. Especially if touchpad gestures are still supported 🤔.

If there is no problem, and it's just a preference thing, could we have it as an optional setting or something as with touchpad gestures?

Damn, I was using mouse button 4-5 for Backward and Forward navigation so much, this is just slower overall :(

CTRL + <- and CTRL + -> still work fine, so this is not a fundamentally impossible change to undo. I certainly hope navigations will come back.

I’m also facing the same issue, and it’s very annoying because it messes with my muscle memory and the alternative via the keyboard requires me to move my mouse hand over to the keyboard. The buttons in the UI are sometimes not accessible (for example in the preview / when opening tasks), so you're forced to use the shortcut there to go back. I could remap my mouse buttons to the keyboard shortcut, but then they don't work in other programs like Chrome anymore. While it might help users click the right buttons in the web version, it definitely feels like a step back for mouse users in the desktop version.

Yes, this change was listed in the update notes under the "Navigation 2.0" section. But I don't understand the reasoning behind this change either. It makes the app actively more difficult for me to use.

Thanks for reporting. Could you share your operating system, whether you’re using the desktop app or browser, and your Capacities version? What exact message appears when you press the mouse buttons?
